New version of the NetBSD UNIX distribution released.

The new release of the NetBSD UNIX distribution has just been released. This distribution based on the 4.4BSD operating system gives the user a super secure and reliable server operating system that is fully capable of powering an Apache http server; a mail server or MySQL database. This operating system using a UNIX kernel and is far more reliable and secure than a Windows Server 2008 or 2012 installation. I have installed and configured the Windows Server 2008 product and it is quite easy to setup a web server by installing the DNS and IIS server roles to provide a web server that is accessible over a network; I still prefer Linux for web hosting as installing the Apache http server and getting a basic page running using PHP is quite simple. it is easy then to configure and install WordPress to create a quick blog. The NetBSD UNIX operating system would be a good candidate for running your web server; or the super-secure OpenBSD operating system. There is a large list of download mirrors on this download page: http://www.netbsd.org/mirrors/.

There is some useful information about the workings of the NetBSD kernel here: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/aix/library/au-netbsd.html. I recommend downloading this operating system and giving it a try if you want something different to try out on your system. Read the announcement here: http://www.netbsd.org/releases/formal-6/NetBSD-6.0.html.
