Ubuntu wallpaper archive. This is very cool if you want an old Ubuntu wallpaper for your PC.

Incredible Ubuntu wallpaper archive

This website: http://ubuntu.ecchi.ca/wallpapers/ is an archive of all wallpapers used by the Ubuntu distribution from Ubuntu 4.10 “Warty Warthog” to Ubuntu 10.10 “Maverick Meerkat”. Very cool if you want to see the classic old Ubuntu wallpapers that older releases used. Even the Ubuntu calendar wallpapers are present. These were removed from the Ubuntu repositories after the 8.04 release. So have a look and see if you see anything you like.

On an Ubuntu machine, the user can use this command to install some classic wallpapers.

jason@Yog-Sothoth:~$ sudo apt install ubuntu-wallpapers*

These images are installed in the /usr/share/backgrounds directory.

jason@Yog-Sothoth:~$ dpkg -L ubuntu-wallpapers-raring

This is how to customize your Ubuntu installation with some classic wallpapers. The wallpaper style has changed quite a bit in the long time that Ubuntu has been under development, but this is still looking great.

Ubuntu changed from the older brown wallpapers to a newer style in newer releases for several reasons, including:

  1. Fresh Look and Feel: One of the reasons for changing the wallpaper style is to give the operating system a fresh and updated look and feel. The older brown wallpapers were used for many years, and users were looking for a change in the aesthetics.
  2. Visual Appeal: The newer wallpapers are generally considered to be more visually appealing and attractive than the older ones. The newer wallpapers feature high-resolution images and vibrant colours that make the desktop more visually appealing and engaging.
  3. Differentiation: Another reason for the change in wallpaper style is to differentiate between different releases of Ubuntu. Each Ubuntu release has a unique wallpaper, making it easy for users to distinguish between different versions.
  4. User Feedback: Ubuntu developers also take user feedback into consideration when designing the wallpapers for each release. They may use focus groups or surveys to gather feedback and design wallpapers that are more appealing to users.

The changes in wallpaper style is part of Ubuntu’s commitment to keeping its operating system fresh, modern, and visually appealing to users.
