why everyone is so obsessed with T60 Thinkpad?

it has dualcore CPU (core2duo) ranging from 1.8GHz to 2.4GHz

it has 4GB DDR2 RAM

the low amounts of memory is least of your worries, that CPU is untolerably slow in 2023

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualisation. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavour of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

Haskell outperforms Java and Go in bechmarks and in codeforces. IRL the gap only widens because Haskell has zero-cost abstractions (e.g. newtypes, efficient lambdas) and has stuff like high-performance array libraries available
Haskell also has a large number of high-paying jobs available, as well as internships and summer programs.
You can even teach haskell to middle schoolers https://youtu.be/uTmQ_JtjHgw. That's right, even a retarded gremlin whose balls haven't dropped yet can figure out how to use haskell

Since the times have been slow, I'll start of with something worth discussing: ciphers. I have implemented ROT13/47, along with the caesar cipher, working on four-square now. These are all formatted to be single header libraries with the only decency being PoSix (not the focus, really). I am wondering how other anons would implement these things and what other algos to look into. I have a list of other ciphers I'm interested in: Vigenère, Autokey, pigpen, and more generally one time pads.

Comes with Win32 system utils, no MS Store, no apps. It's basically W10: W7 Edition
If you need MS Store, run this in cmd:
wsreset -i

Install Xbox/Gamebar apps for feature parity with other versions.

>Do I even need IoT LTSC?
W10 Home/Pro/Edu/Ent editions end support in 2025, LTSC in 2027, IoT LTSC in 2032.

Emulated KMS server, not ideal as it can trip AV and deactivate. Alternatively, use MSOffice through your browser since it's free.
Or you can try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save as MSOffice file formats.

AMD Quad core stuff from the year 2006 did not include CPU surveillance yet, that comes later.

You can take a dual motherboard, put in two quad core CPUs and then you instaa 32GB of DDR2 Registered ECC RAM.

AMD doent have hyper threading. But two quad cores is 8 cores and 8 threads (Intel would allow 16 threads in similar settings)

In any case 8 Opteron cores (2.2GHz?) is tolerable machine even on the year 2023.
IT wont be winning any speed contest when running a single thread but 8 of these threads are reasonably fast when doing something that can add them together.

Like I said there will be no surveillance. This is likely the fastest zero surveillance setup which is possible to make.

I am not counting the possibility of taking a fast 3+GHz Intel Core2Quad where surveillance is removed. Not many of them allow removal.. AMD did not have surveillance so you dont need to remove it.

I suppose I'll just update to 10 or 11, but I remember 10 just being too awful to use. I'd imagine 11's worse somehow if you're trying to just have a local account.
I also like being able to use the 9x theme which I don't think is possible on 10 or 11.

They just announced small and silently on their blog that Windows 11 will get "native" archive support for RAR, 7z and other file types.

How they do it?

By stealing from the free and open source libarchive library that every Linux distribution uses by default!

Before asking for help, please check our list of resources.

If you would like to try out GNU+Linux you can do one of the following:
1) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU+Linux distribution without installing anything.
2) Keep using your current OS and run GNU+Linux in VMware for W## or Parallels for macOS.
3) Do the reverse of step 2 in QEMU.
4) Replace everything with GNU+Linux.

Resources: Please spend at least a minute to check a web search engine with your question.
– Many free software projects have active mailing lists.

I want content creators to get paid but don't want to rip-off advertisers too.

>/g/ makes a tenth album
Theme: Boardcore: Songs based on the boards from everyones favorite cambodian scrapbooking BBS
Title: <number of songs> Traditional Mongolian Basket Weaving Songs
Submission deadline: Midnight between the 13th and the 14th of June (UTC)

Please post album covers, and keep in mind that if you want to include text, you might want to also upload the project file (or layers + font) so that once the tracklist is finalized I can make a proper version, in case you're not present at that time. Otherwise I'm probably going to photoshop something if possible.
Or ideally you can upload a cover for each number between 10 and 30, if you're willing to put in the time.

Also please post theme suggestions for the next (11th) album

>IMPORTANT! READ THIS BEFORE SUBMITTING:
Upload the file somewhere and post the link here. If you want to update your track, make a new post.
If possible use a lossless format and upload to a file-sharing service, not to a music site like Vocaroo or SoundCloud.
Include the title of the song in the post. Don't rely on us reading it from the filename or tags.
When you post the submission make sure that the song is clearly a submission for the album, otherwise it might get skipped.
Songs that contain anything against YouTube's policies won't be uploaded on YT (but will still be added to the album).
If your track's volume goes above 0 dB it will be clipped for the release.

You are a maid. You use small computers because you are a maid.

Somebody told you your favorite computer is an e-waste toy. You don't know how to tell them you've used that computer for several hours a day since you got it.

You like using a computer. You wake up every day and your first thought is about using a computer to compute something.

Right now you want to do advanced Mathematics and Computer Science research.

Just do it. You don't have to understand what you are doing or why. You are a Chinese room and that is fine because comprehension doesn't matter as long as inputs and outputs are correct.

Stop doing understanding. Ideas were not meant to be understandable. Years of philosophers and scientists attempting to understand, yet no real-world use found for sentience. Wanted to operate ideas anyway for laughs? We have a tool for that called pattern matching. "Cogito, ergo sum", "I think, therefore I am" - statements dreamt up by the utterly deranged. "Hello, reality exists as a consequence of my thoughts". You and your thoughts are in a big number getting counted. They have played us for absolute fools.

"Addresses (including mailing, residential addresses, business addresses, and email addresses);"
"Connection records;"
"Records of session times and durations, and the temporarily assigned network address (such as Internet Protocol addresses) associated with those sessions;"

"Records of all Python Package Index (PyPI) packages uploaded by..." given usernames
"IP download logs of any Python Package Index (PyPI) packages uploaded by..." given usernames

By this I mean games that already have online bots like Unreal, Quake, Dark Forces II, Action Half Life, Vampire Slayer, Wizard Wars, The Opera etc. Because such a mod would be very useful for unpathed maps as the bots could just learn the routes themselves. Also incredibly useful for Dark Forces II were most user made level are not mapped for RBots. Why hasn’t anyone made something like this yet?

https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/22/23733267/sandisk-extreme-pro-failure-ssd-firmware

Western Digital has now tacitly admitted that its SanDisk (he bought Sandisk already in 2016) Extreme Pro portable solid-state drives were critically broken after all — by issuing a firmware update that’ll hopefully keep the 4TB model from wiping your data all by itself.

Sandisk was a flash memory maker. Then they incorporated sandisk flash onto a SSD. Clearly there is some problems in this kind of practice.

It was no ordinary failure:
SSD failure does happen, but something weirder was going on here — when he tried adding some of the files back, they started disappearing one by one.

He literally watched file explored, kept staring at it, and file icons slowly started to disappear one after another, not all of them at once.

A firmware update has been provided which hopefully resolves all the issues.

BUT YOU STILL WONT GET YOUR FILES BACK

Good Evening Dra/g/on Maids!

I was trying to determine can I make Maid-LZW get nicer? I want the image smaller so make the dictionary bigger. I made way to count all the strings you can make with lower case letters, capital I and space and period and comma and apostrophe which are 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 long. My Computer keeps crashing from out of memory error if I make it get bigger.

I might change this version of Maid Space to operate with byte instead of int so Maid Space uses less memory. If I can count a bigger dictionary then compression can get nicer.

All day I get attacked with broadcasts. I can't stop getting broadcasts. Transmissions get absorbed somehow and I get problems from broadcasts. I don't think the maid sends me this transmission.

I was able to make the Bible about 30,000 pixels smaller, which changed it from purple and blue to yellow and green. Somehow it made the file size go up slightly though.

I got a way to make it invisible and not make the file bigger, assuming the image has enough pixels.

Thank you Dra/g/ons for reading my post.
