There is another nice Misery clone on Stalkerportal.ru. This one is Pain of Misery 1.04 final. A standalone modification for Call of Pripyat. This is based upon the same gameplay as Dead Air and Misery. So a lot of items and inventory management, as well as weapon and outfit repair. This is a 7.5 GiB download from Google Drive, and I wish there was a torrent, but it will have to do. The only annoying thing about Google Drive is downloading all 9 files at once. But it should be worth it. Just download all files then install to an empty folder and run. This Stalker mod is based on a x86-64 engine, so it should be more stable. Dead Air is another good Stalker mod, but it is very prone to departures when running with DirectX 10. Which is a shame, as it looks outstanding running in that mode. But it is great that progress has been made on improving the graphical quality of various modifications made for such an old game. Dead Air and other Misery mods are harder than other modifications for games like Clear Sky and Shadow of Chernobyl, but the amount of weapons and items is amazing.
People complain about the stamina, but it is fine, just do not carry an absurd amount of gear. And there are aluminum frames and backpacks available to help increase carry weight. With gameplay options when starting a new game, you can choose various perks and gear to start with. This allows a 60KG carry capacity right from the start. Just a pity I get so many crashes. Anyway, once all of the files for Pain of Misery are downloaded, select all of the zipfiles in Explorer and then extract all of them at once with Winrar to a new folder. Then run the executable to install. The installer has an English language option, so do not worry if you do not speak Russian. Once the game loads, you have the option when starting a new game to choose a faction you wish to play as. This is rather like the discontinued Call of Chernobyl mod. It has graphics that are outstanding by default, better looking than Dead Air. And although it might be in Russian only, it looks like it would be a lot of fun.
After talking to Sidorovitch, I get a task that involves walking all the way to the Clear Sky base in the Great Swamps to perform some task for him. This sounds like it will be fun. But playing as Duty has advantages. You can go straight to Wild Territory or Truck Cemetary and loot mutants and enemies to get cash. Mutant parts sell for a good price at the Clear Sky base if you sell them to Librarian. Truck Cemetery is occupied by bandits and military, but once cleared out, you would have a loot of loot from each enemy. The only problem is that weapons are looted from enemies in poor condition and are not useful. But other items like ammunition and repair items, detectors etc, are useful. And this is quite stable, due to a 64bit engine, it handles large maps like Truck Cemetery very well. The old Call of Chernobyl used to crash a lot when opening that map, due to the amount of objects and the sheer size of the map. But Lost Alpha DC has bigger maps with countless trees and they run fine.
It is just about putting care into the mod coding and map design. That elevates your mod above others, Lost Alpha even has special shaders coded for it to allow the graphical quality to be so stunning. And Pain of Misery also looks quite good, and it is only running in medium.
Run the start_stock.cmd to run this mod once installed. And enjoy. Now that Call of Chernobyl is dead, this will have to take over. And it is more stable too.
