Windows 11 takes a bit of getting used to.

Windows 11 takes a bit of time to get used to. I am running this now instead of Windows 8.1 and this is quite strange. The context menu used for working with files has icons on the top for copy paste and other basic functions. This is very strange, but when you think about it, this makes some sense, instead of squeezing 1000 options onto the menu, you use a few icons instead. But on an M2 SSD with super speed, this takes a very short time to boot up. It is almost instant, this is a change from Ubuntu with snaps that takes a while to boot up. If the Snap framework was removed it would be faster, Arch Linux basic installation that boots to Virtual Terminal boots up almost instantly, this is amazing. Ubuntu is getting more and more bloated. Just like modern gaming engines. They are getting more and more bloated with each iteration. The exception seems to be the engine that Arma 4 will apparently use, the Enfusion engine. This seems like it will be very fast and sleek, the multicore performance is one of the stated aims of the new engine. The outdated RV4 engine is showing its age and it is time for a whole new engine written from the ground up.

This is the main aim of the new Enfusion engine. This will support Directx 11 and will make much more use of modern CPU hardware. Modern multi-core CPU hardware can run a game well if it is spread amongst all of the cores and this makes for a smoother game. Spreading the AI calculations, and physics amongst 12 CPU cores and the GPU is a good way to make a game run better than a single-core focused game, also, it must be scalable to a point, this ensures that most computers can run it. Sure, you need Directx 11 capable hardware, but the game engine must be scalable. Giving good FPS as long as the amount of AI and PhysX objects are kept to a reasonable amount. That is the problem with many Arma 3 scenarios. You cannot expect to recreate the battle of Thermopylae in a game and also have good FPS. Other games like the battle simulators you see on Youtube. They can have thousands of AI, but this is a different scenario altogether. Read more about the Enfusion engine here: https://enfusionengine.com/. This is the most promising development for a while. it is good to finally get an update about Enfusion and it gives us a peek into the future of gaming.
