The Corona Virus lock-down is getting out of hand, the police are enforcing public order and patrolling outside areas to ensure that people are not sitting outside longer than required. This is to ensure that infectious people are kept away from others and to keep others safe. At least we have Netflix and Youtube to keep us entertained. The Internet is coping very well with the extra load incurred by other people using it for streaming television shows and movies. But there are still people walking around outside as if nothing is happening. But mostly, this is going very smoothly. The rate of infection is not that bad, due to the segregation of the sick from the healthy. That is why we need to have lockdown laws and maintain public order. If everyone was mingling as usual, then the rate of infection would be higher. So, this is a disruption to the normal day for many people, but it is preventing a higher spread of the disease. The speed of modern Internet connections should allow workers to telecommute from home and not need to travel on a train to work if it is an information technology-related field. This is 2020.
We should be able to do most things from home, if a document needs to be signed, it can be signed electronically and then E-Mailed back to the sender. There is the capability to work online using collaborative tools to video conference and use a collaborative whiteboard to share ideas in a virtual meeting. This could be set up using free software like Apache web server, and Open Meetings software. This negates the need to travel in-person to an important meeting. And there are also Fax machines. As well as Virtual Private Networks to allow secure encrypted communications to protect businesses when conducting meetings over the Internet. So why not set this up and try it out? This is a very powerful way to move your business meetings online securely. Better than travelling in this current environment. One good thing is that the pollution is lessening in the cities. That is a very good sign for the future.
