Facebook to create the Snow Crash Metaverse in reality?

The Metaverse from the famous novel Snow Crash could be a reality, this is the plan of the Facebook CEO who wants to create a 3D rendered world to enable people to interact within this world. There are features such as Horizon Workrooms. This is a VR workroom that allows remote workers to collaborate online in a 3D rendered boardroom. This would be very interesting for remote workers isolated due to the pandemic. I can not wait until this technology matures, it will be a good distraction from actual human interaction. The world will end up like the world in Snow Crash with people wearing goggles and continually jacked into the Metaverse. I wonder if we will get the gargoyle people that wear computers and goggles all of the time. Wearable computers existed in the 1990s, this is not new, but they were very bulky. But modern technology makes smaller computers possible. A Rasberry PI can make for a very powerful and compact computing solution for a portable computing experience. I do wonder if the use of VR goggles in the long term can have any detrimental effects? This might come to light in a few years.

This is a very interesting page about the history of wearable computing in history: http://www.wearcam.org/ieeecomputer/r2025.htm. This is a good read for any computing historian. All we need to complete the Snow Crash book is to recreate the actual Snow Crash googles that connect a user to the Metaverse. We could have had all of this with Metaverse. However, we got stuck in the 1990s. In the 1960s, the Metaverse was being developed with the intention of creating a truly immersive experience for anyone who wanted it. The Metaverse was to have its own economy. But the Metaverse we got never materialized as the Metaverse. And today, many of the Metaverse we got are becoming just as much a part of our everyday life as our physical self. However, even with that, people are still using the Metaverse for much more than the mundane tasks of money, buying, and sex. People are using it for a host of other tasks. And we all just take it for granted that it exists, and that we can access it whenever we want. However, until recently, the Metaverse never really had any sort of UI or user interface. No one had ever developed a user interface that was part of the Metaverse.
