Windows 10 still has some interesting features from older Windows versions like Windows `98. Apparently, it is possible to disable ACPI shutdown. This means the operating system will shut down to a back screen with the text “It is now safe to power off the system”. This is a setting hidden in the group policy editor. That would be a very interesting thing to try. Another interesting piece of trivia, windows minimized in Windows `95 were moved to a position 32000 by 32000 pixels off the main windows desktop, this meant they were too far off the screen and the coordinates were not too large for some programs that would misbehave if they saw that the coordinates were too far. Then they tried the 32000 coordinates instead. But this also caused problems and the final solution was to use coordinates of 3000×3000, this fixed a lot of issues with the misbehaving programs. Windows NT and beyond stuck with the -32000x-32000 pixels coordinates and since the misbehaving programs were fixed, this stayed as the default for NT onwards. If you have a multi-monitor Windows `98 system, you can see the minimized windows out on the edge of the desktop.

I do wonder if there is information in the Windows XP source code leak about the window position. But this is very strange, instead of actually hiding the window, you just move it off the screen instead. This is not how I imagined it would work when an application window is actually minimized. But does this mean if you had a massive resolution could you still see the minimized windows in Windows 10? I guess it does. But even with 3 5120×1440 monitors, it would be hard to see the windows at -32000 pixels. The maximum desktop resolution of Windows is 16k. So you can only have up to a 16000×16000 pixel resolution desktop.1 That is a shame. But you would need a lot of video memory to use a resolution like that I would think. Imagine playing a game at that massive resolution. That would be incredible. I am not sure if that is possible. But it would be a lot of fun. Maybe they will make a monitor that is a half-circle and you turn your head and then you can see around you as you have a surround resolution. So only one screen that shows a 180-degree field of view. That would be quite amazing.

If you hold Control-Shift and right-click on the taskbar, you have an option to exit Windows Explorer. Clicking on the taskbar and then pressing Alt-Spacebar brings up a context menu to exit the taskbar.
