This GRUB config in the /etc/default/grub file will give a good old-fashioned text boot instead of the graphical bootsplash that we are all familiar with. This works very well on my system, and the user can see exactly what is happening when the machine is booting up. This allows the user to see what may be holding the system up when it is booting and starting various services.

Just edit the /etc/default/grub file to match this and then run this command to update the grub configuration.

The GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="text" option is the one that applies the changes, just change that and the bootup will be text instead of graphical.
