How to use the Windows 11 virtual desktop feature. This is very useful indeed.

Windows 11 has a very useful feature, the Windows 11 virtual desktop. This allows a user to create virtual desktops and have different applications open on each one. To use this, the shortcuts are listed below.

  • Windows+Tab: Open Task View.
  • Windows+Ctrl+D: Create a new virtual desktop.
  • Windows+Ctrl+Left or Right Arrow: Switch between virtual desktops.
  • Windows+Ctrl+F4: Close the current virtual desktop.

This is a great feature of Windows 11. I believe that Windows 10 has this as well. It is very good to separate different applications on each virtual desktop.

Press the Win-W shortcut to bring up the widgets panel. This has a weather applet as well as a stock market applet. You may add your favourite stock codes to this applet to monitor them easily.

The Win-Z shortcut opens the snap layout flyout, this enables quick changes to the Window layout on your desktop.

Press Windows-A to open the quick settings dialogue. This enables quick access to the volume and other useful Windows settings.

Press Win + Shift + S to capture part of the screen with the snipping tool.

Win+Tab will open the virtual desktops overview. This enables switching between virtual desktops and seeing what is on each one.

There are a lot of shortcuts for the Windows CMD terminal, but they are superfluous when you are using Windows Terminal which is 1000 times better. Powershell is far more powerful than CMD anyway. With an object-oriented scripting language.

Press Win+G to open the Xbox game bar.

Win+Alt+R will start recording a video of the active game you are playing.

Win+Alt+PrtScr will capture a screenshot of the active game application.

Win+Pause will open the system properties dialogue.

Press Windows+K to open the dialogue to cast to an external display.

Open the quick links menu with Win+X. This opens a dialogue that contains links to Device Manager, Computer Management, Windows Terminal et cetera.
