Linux has come a long way, and it supports more hardware than ever.

The Linux desktops that we know and use have come a long way. The KDE Linux desktop environment is very different now compared to 2006. But at least it has kept the same basic layout with the taskbar and start menu, unlike Gnome. That has changed completely since the Gnome shell came out, now it is an unusable mobile phone interface. Just to be hip I guess, but why copy an Android styled interface for a Linux desktop. I loaded up my Android 📱 interface on my PC using Samsung Dex and it looked just like Gnome Shell. Gnome Shell is slower than Gnome 2. Thank all the gods in existence for the MATE desktop environment, that is much better. Linux needs one very good desktop environment to be suitable for the desktop in 2022. Having disparate desktops for each version of a Linux desktop is not the best approach, Windows has one and it is very familiar to everyone. If Linux distributions would adopt one desktop environment that would be easy and familiar to Windows users, then it might be more widely used. Developers insisting on creating a desktop environment that emulates the Android one reeks of superciliousness, this does not help the Linux cause at all.

There is also this propaganda from Microsoft, this implies better hardware support from Windows 7 than Linux, but even a long time ago, hardware support on Linux was very good, even in 2006. Getting a PCMCIA card working on a Linux laptop was not hard at all, or USB thumb drives. Nowadays we have CUP for setting up printers and W-Wan support or Mobile Broadband is not too hard either, this works very well. Cameras and MP3 players, even the iPod work very well on Linux. There are quite a few programs on Linux that can manage an iPod. Linux can even integrate with Active Directory to a degree using Samba. That is amazing. You can create a Windows Workgroup with Samba on Linux and then share a folder with the members of that workgroup. This is very useful on a shared Windows – Linux network. I am not sure what they mean by services integration, but there are tools for Linux Integration Services that allow better integration with HyperV Virtual Machines on Linux guests. Software Compatibility is a bit strange, you can use Microsoft Office in the cloud, you do not need to install it anyway.
