Google have published a paper concerning a Quantum computer and then retracted the document, I could not get hold of a copy of it, but it concerns the ability to operate with multiple quits to perform mathematical calculations that are impossible for a normal computer, which can only perform one calculation at a time per processor core. A quantum CPU can perform multiple calculations at once and would be very powerful as any known encryption could be cracked very quickly, although a quantum encryption scheme using a quantum CPU would be unbreakable. This would revolutionize computing as we know it. But why did they delete this paper? I wonder if anyone downloaded it before it was deleted. That is something I want to read. I would share it with my readers if I had a copy, but I do not. A quantum computer could not be used for gaming, the entire Windows OS and associated software would have to be completely rewritten to work on the completely different CPU architecture. That is a fact, and would take time. But it would be able to perform any simulations for predicting weather and simulations of various things for science. The first world would move further ahead of other countries and be able to dominate in the money market as well, such a computer could probably allow predictions in stock market trends and allow some fortunate people to dominate the stock market. Would that unbalanced situation affect the money market negatively? I guess it would bring in a new world, favoring the very fortunate and not helping the poor in any way.
That is the sad reality of the world. This may not change either, unless universal basic income is a reality, then all of the poorer people who are out of work after automation would still be able to eke out an existence in housing. But this is far from an idealistic Star Trek world. Anyway, this so called quantum computer can only do what it is programmed to do, like any computer, it is not Skynet. Which is a real satellite communications company…
