I have noticed a trend lately where sites (blogs and news sites in particular) will put up an overlay the first time you visit their site, asking you to sign up for an account or take a survey. They almost always have a little “X” button, or a “Close” button, or something to close them. One takes up the whole screen and demands the user either subscribe or disable adblock to continue browsing the website. But this can be blocked in turn. There is an Adblock Plus filter list that can block this annoying stuff. Copy the contents of this file into your uBlock Origin filters and this will be reduced. You can use this website article to test the before and after when trying out this extensive filter listing yourself.
But this does work, and should help reduce the annoying prevalence of popup calls to attention that just make you want to click the back button or close the tab.
Hi John,
I came across your post and recommend you check out the Web Annoyances Ultralist [1] for uBlock Origin &/or Adguard.
Included as part of the main ultralist [2] is a modal sublist [3] that is included with the main subscription that kills many of these around the web.
