Playing Playstation games on a Linux machine is very easy, the pcxsr package allows emulation of Playstation games on a modern Linux machine.
Install the package.

Then plug in a USB controller. A Logitech F310 is perfect. Then load up either a ROM image or a game from a CD. Then you are ready to play. This works for me out of the box with no extra configuration required. I could not get this working well on Windows, but on Linux it is perfect. The sound works just fine and the graphics as well.
Below is a very nice password for Wipeout 2097. This unlocks everything in the game.
There is also emulation for Nintendo games. The original NES consoles are decaying and therefore emulation is becoming more and more popular. It would be great if Nintendo would remake the NES console and all the games, you could fit the whole NES library on one console and you could use a menu to choose which game you wanted to play. Even if it was an LJN game. But playing the Playstation library on an emulator is very cool. The ~/.pcsxr/memcards folder contains the memory card files. These can easily be backed up to another drive. But it is amazing that Linux allows such good hardware support to allow me to play old games on a nice emulator.
