Arch Linux developer stepping down and a new installer for Arch Linux.

The Arch Linux distribution developer Bartłomiej Piotrowski has stepped down as a developer for the venerable Linux distribution. This is after 10 years of service maintaining this Linux distribution. But nothing lasts forever and he did very good work maintaining the distro. In other news, the Arch Linux distribution is getting a new installer, this is optional for now and installations made using this installer will not be supported at the moment, only those made using the user guide. But in the future, Arch Linux will be getting a proper installer like Debian and Fedora. This will help make the distribution more mainstream. Debian has had a proper installer for a very long time, but this is a different approach than Gentoo and Arch, they are meant to be more hardcore distributions. But this is progress. People expect a more streamlined installation process these days. You can still use Gentoo if you wish to use the command line for hours to install a Gnome desktop. But I think the installer is a fine idea. In other news, they are considering dropping the Chromium package from Arch repos. This means you will only be able to use Firefox and any version of Chromium that did remain would have reduced functionality.

But is this a good thing or not? Arch Linux is a good Linux distribution and I hope this does not hurt the reputation of the developers at all. Actually, the Chromium package has been adopted, so it is saved: https://lists.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch-dev-public/2021-January/030265.html. So this is good news at least. I wonder what the installer will look like though, this is very interesting stuff.
