Arma Reforger still needs a lot of work in August 2023.


May 13th, 2022 was 1 year, 3 months, and 3 days ago, which is 460 days. It was on a Friday and was in week 19 of 2022. And the Arma Reforger game is still in a horrible state even after all of this time. The developers added a medical system, but the constant session errors and server/client crashes are plaguing this game even after 460 days in the wild and that length of time in development hell. This is not a good look if they intend to release a 1.0 build eventually. It is not promising at all. I do not understand why they can be so incompetent when they are supposedly a very well-off game studio, but that is how the cookie crumbles. I hope they come to their senses and develop something better for Arma 4. The console players are not the most intelligent bunch and do not fit in a supposedly mil-sim game.

Can’t remap ‘Assets/Vehicles/Wheeled/M151A2/m151a2_base.xob’ material from ‘M151A2_Wheel_Spare’ to ‘Assets/Vehicles/Wheeled/M151A2/Data/M151A2_Wheel_Spare_MERDC.emat’. Source material does not exist. That is the reason for the crash, but it still should not be happening at all. A lot of times you can not even join a server without getting a “Session Error”. Is this the best they can do in 2023? They should have used Unreal Engine 5 instead. Unreal Engine 5 has a lot of features suitable for a modern game. Unreal Engine 5 can handle up to a 256km² landscape with an 8161 x 8161 resolution heightmap. That would be pretty big. But if you could use a 192×192 KM square map, it would be big enough for jets. Another major problem is collision detection, you can run over a person in a fast truck and they are not actually hit, they can shoot at you from behind. This is amazing. Plus the ability to drive right through a wall or a tent in a truck. That is abominable in a modern game made with an all-new engine. That is why they need better staff and better programming to ensure a better quality product.

Trucks should not be able to drive straight through a person and not even injure them. But the game does have interesting bugs like setting off an explosion under a vehicle damages it the most. Then once the black smoke starts it will soon catch fire and be destroyed. Just like Far Cry 2. It really is a terrible product, plus the developers are far behind in the timeline of updates and this means the game is in a terrible state. By the time Arma 4 releases, the Enfusion engine will be severely outdated. This is hilarious. Bohemia can not catch a break.
