Optus downtime in Australia is very embarrassing.

The current Optus outage shows the dangers of the reliance on modern technology and poorly maintained Internet infrastructure. This is not a good thing in 2023 with all train services and mobile Internet affected by the Internet downtime. This is a bad omen, Optus can not even keep a simple network up in peak time, and Australia is going downhill fast. Offshoring all technical support is a very bad idea. Why does an Internet outage affect vital train services anyway? This should not even happen in 2023, but this does happen. Even emergency calls were not working after the Optus network interruption. That is not excusable in the modern day. There must always be a reliable network in a supposed first-world country. That is what we expect when we wake up in the morning. To be able to check e-mails and make phone calls, receive important text messages; to communicate with loved ones and work colleagues.

But this went to the wayside and this is very embarrassing. But this is Australia, they are hopeless at anything and are offshoring all important Information Technology to offshore call centers and service suffers as a result. Not the best advertisement for Optus services is it?

Down Detector website: https://downdetector.com.au/status/optus/. Most of the reported issues are mobile network-related, followed by Mobile Internet and landline DSL connections. Hopefully, they will learn from this experience, but I doubt it. After the data leak, you would think such a company would have affected better IT infrastructure and invested in security systems to prevent data breaches and network downtime, but here we are with angry customers fronting stores to take out their anger on the poor staff. This will only get worse over time, and they want us to have Digital ID and more online systems when an outage like this can take it all down and prevent anyone from using it. It seems to be coming back online by 4 PM Australian time, but it will happen again I bet. This is a sure thing in 2023.
