Possible spoilers for the new Matrix Resurrections movie
- The Merovingian is from the second Matrix / and is the first Exile when the Matrix was reloaded into its third cycle and the previous four before this one.
- He is also aided by Smith and Agent Johnson, Smith helps the Merovingian use the backdoors. As Smith’s old avatar was destroyed completely, he has a new younger “skin”.
- A younger Morpheus appears who is working for a program called The Analyst, however, it is just a program, he chases down the new hero at the beginning like an Agent.
- The Merovingian is Hades, king of the underworld and is amassing an army of exiles.
- The Analyst is the main program of the new Matrix and his whole purpose is to make sure Neo stays blue pilled by acting as his therapist then attempts to stop Neo from reuniting with Trinity as it’s revealed that this will unlock all of Neo’s powers again.
- The new Matrix is much more realistic and grounded compared to the previous six and seems to be the perfect simulation, much harder to bend rules here or even break them.
- No more Agents, there is just real-world Police, FBI and Military final chase/fight scene that is amazing and brings back Matrix 1 vibes, this feels like a rebooted Matrix 1/2 mash-up.
The reason why Agent Smith doesn’t have the same skin anymore is that the system will literally SWARM down upon him if they detect that particular RSI again hence why he has to use a new “remapped” skin. The young Morpheus was uploaded into the Matrix when Neo died in the third film, his consciousness uploaded a copy of the real Morpheus that was recruited at an early age to become the bodyguard of the Analyst and is mainly antagonistic (but he has his own arc). The cycle has been broken, however, the peace between man and machine has been broken as the Analyst has managed to dilute the Architect/Oracle’s influence over the Matrix (possibly deleted them with a rogue AI in the Machine World who is planning to overthrow Deus Ex God of the Machines in the real world). Pro-Human Machine vs. Anti-Human Machine war is established here for the future sequel(s) however these sequels will be more spaced out leading to. Something pretty epic for both the Matrix and the Real World which is called the Mergence Protocol.
One very good scene is when Neo rebels against The Analyst and Trinity and he decide to escape the Matrix together which unleashes SWARM (think of it as an upgrade from the Agents) which turns the WHOLE CITY against the pair (all blue-pills are infected leading to them to City & State Police and a strong Military presence. Easily one of the best scenes of all four films. Another good scene is a classic bullet-time sequence between Bugz mimicking Trinity’s “crane kick”. The Analyst is like a more “human” version of the Architect. He is the most human program apart of the Oracle in that he is able to understand human emotions (even love) despite being one of the new programs. When a new Matrix is created, new heads are established. With the Paradise Matrix, the Architect was there. Hell Matrix, the Merovingian. Third Matrix, The Oracle. Consider this “new” Matrix, “the fourth” despite there this being the seventh one and it introduces The Analyst. Funny scenes between Agent Johnson (who is now an exile) and Smith as the two are now guiding the Merovingian back into the Matrix. Smith still retains his superiority complex over Johnson who is more of a straightforward idiot.
Blue-pilled Neo and Trinity. Neo is working for a tech company and does simulative games (Matrix inside a Matrix idea). Zion still looks like Zion, unfortunately.
