This is very easy to do. Get comprehensive hardware information about your desktop computer with a simple script. This is available to install for newer Ubuntu releases, but for those of us using an LTS release, the script may be downloaded from this page.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hw-probe/1.5-1.
Unpack the tarball and then run the script to generate a URL with your hardware information on it.

This is a very easy way to generate a complete listing of all hardware installed. It also tells you the running Linux distro you are using, but I was running the Trinity Desktop Environment. It also detects hard drive errors and tells you which HDD needs replacing. This is critical to avoid data loss. The script would be very useful for seeking help on a forum, the information could be generated and then posted to help others diagnose the problem. This is easier than using other Linux utilities to gather the information and then posting it on Pastebin, and then posting the URL. And the information does not contain sensitive user information. So it is fine to share it on a forum and then get help with your Linux hardware or software issue. Give this script a try, it is very useful for any Linux user.
