KDE 3 is back. I am running Trinity desktop and loving it.

This is the Ubuntu distribution running the Trinity desktop for Linux. This is a reworking of KDE 3 to operate on a modern Linux distribution.

I added this to my /etc/apt/sources.lst for Ubuntu 18.04.

deb http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-builddeps-r14.0.0/ubuntu     bionic  main
deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-r14.0.0/ubuntu           bionic  main
deb-src http://mirror.ppa.trinitydesktop.org/trinity/trinity-builddeps-r14.0.0/ubuntu bionic  main

Then save and exit.

Then run this command to install the required GPG key.

jason@Yog-Sothoth:~$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.quickbuild.io --recv-keys F5CFC95C

Then update the package repositories with the new information.

jason@Yog-Sothoth:~$ sudo apt-get update

Once the package repositories are updated, run this command to install required packages.

jason@Yog-Sothoth:~$ sudo apt install kubuntu-default-settings-trinity kubuntu-desktop-trinity

And I had to reboot to get everything running fine, or just restart the login manager. There are some lovely themes available for the Trinity desktop environment. They are very nice, all of the familiar themes from KDE 2.2. This is a great desktop for any user who wants a nostalgic desktop experience.

The file manager in Trinity is the familiar Konqueror. This is very easy to use and navigate.

The desktop interface is very fast, with different settings available for varying system specifications. A perfect desktop for an Ubuntu respin. I would love to see one with Trinity on it, styled to look like a Linux distribution from 2006, but with all modern packages. That would be incredible.

BTW, if you wish to get the release number of your Ubuntu distro, use this command.
