Linux more durable than ever before.

The Linux distributions we use today are more stable and reliable than ever before. I remember when filling up your hard drive would lead to a kernel panic, but today my hard disk was at 0% space and I just got a notification popup telling me that, so I could then load Midnight Commander and fix the problem. I cleared up over 100 Gigabytes of stuff, and now it is all fine. That goes to show that Linux is getting more and more stable as time goes on. This is great. Of course, letting the HDD fill to 100% is a bad idea, but this was not as much of a catastrophe as it could have been. The reliability of our favorite alternative operating system is a good indication of the future of free software. Better than Windows 10 that keeps on stuffing up when installing updates and deleting files. That proves that the updates were not tested before the deployment onto client machines, resulting in much embarrassment for Microsoft. So I am very happy today. No kernel panic, and I was able to fix the problem with no fuss. This is why I prefer Linux over Windows 10 any day. I do wonder how Windows 10 would react to having zero disk space.

Would I be able to fix the problem or not? One problem reported on Windows 10 was the Windows 10 Search feature works in the the hidden folder “\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data” and this folder was filling up at an astounding rate. A user had 66 GiB of data in here for some strange reason. After doing a “Rebuild” on the Microsoft “Indexing Options” control panel setting (under the “Advanced” section), all the lost free space was returned to the the machine and the problem was solved. But why was this filling up in the first place? That is very strange indeed. You would need a massive hard disk for Windows 10 then. Or can you disable the service that does this in the first place? That could free up disk space and improve performance on a system with a lot installed. I can do that with Windows 8.1, but Windows 10 might be more locked down in that regard. At least Ubuntu and Debian allow the user to have full control over which services are running. That is why Linux is adopted as a free alternative to Windows, and there are people who do not trust Windows 10. There is also doubt over the data sent from Windows 10 to MS.

Windows 10 telemetry sends all kinds of data from your PC to MS. And I do not think it can be turned off either. That is why Linux is much safer than Windows 10. And a few Stalker mods do not work properly on 10 vs 8.1 or 7.
