Microsoft Windows 10 updates still an embarrassment.

Microsoft have been plagued by many issues regarding the quality control and testing within the organisation. The main problem is that there are different testing teams for each section of the operating system, and this has lead to problems slipping through the cracks into mainstream releases. This has caused a lot of embarrassment for Microsoft, the update file deletion scandal, the update to anti-virus breaking the normal operation of Windows Defender is another. This is resulting in a loss of confidence in the software giant, not a good thing when other alternatives to Windows 10 like Windows 8.1 are in the wild. I use Windows 8 on my PC and I have had no problems with updates at all. Contrast that with the constant issues with Windows 10 updates. There should be a developer team that is using a dev version of Windows 10, that get the updates first, before they are released into the wild, and they could test the updates on varying hardware configurations first, before they are released into the wild. That would be a great way to fix many Windows issues and not upload a potentially embarrassing update that has not even been tested properly. But this may never happen, they cannot even test anything properly, before it is committed to the wild. The Debian Linux distribution is more stable, the updates are properly tested in the unstable build before moving to Debian Stable.

Maybe Microsoft could do this as well, have a separate Windows 10 unstable build and then use this to test updates before moving to the stable build of Windows 10 that every gamer and office worker might be using and relying upon for productivity, they do not have time to constantly fix issues with the operating system, and put up with files being deleted. That is not up to par in 2019. We are expecting better things from a major software company that has billions of dollars, they should not be using such horrible testing practices and embarrassing themselves like this. The idea of a separate testing solution and separate build of Windows 10 to test updates on first is a great idea. This could work very well, the implementation of a feedback tracker system to log issues for the developers would also work to alleviate the many issues with this new operating system. It is bad enough that there is negative press about the telemetry that cannot be turned off, but to have serious issues like this crop up in a released service pack is not something that should even be happening in anno 2019. It is time for a new approach and time to put more care and attention into updating the operating system, as well as more effort into testing.
