Windows 7 support ending in 2020.

Support for Windows 7 is ending in 2020. it will show a full-screen dialog explaining the risks of continued use after this time. This is the risk of running Windows, but it is also a problem if a user had an older version of Linux installed and did not install any updates. But Windows 7 is getting older. Microsoft is trying to force users onto the Windows 10 platform, as this is one codebase and this means that they are not supporting multiple versions of Windows. Although, Windows 10 does have many issues with updates breaking various parts of the operating system. And the telemetry that cannot really be turned off or blocked within the Operating System. So it is not a good alternative to Windows 7. This is just fear-mongering by MS to force everyone to use the substandard Windows 10 platform. Microsoft used to be a good company, but has gone downhill lately, just like Apple after Steve Jobs died. They are still turning out a substandard codebase, i.e Windows 10, and are selling it at a good price. Windows 8.1 reaches the end of Extended Support on January 10, 2023. This gives you a little more time if you really want to use Windows.

I would prefer to have Linux as well. It can do things that Windows cannot. That is why you can run Windows within Linux with KVM, or run Linux within Windows using HyperV or VMWare. HyperV is free and has many good features, especially the advanced HyperV server for virtualization. Hyper-V Server 2019 is out and is a standalone operating system for installation on a powerful computer to act as a virtualization server. This can virtualize an operating system that can then be displayed on a remote computer over a network, this is very nice indeed. It is free to download, but you need a license for each Windows operating system you run on a Virtual machine. You can even run MS-DOS in a VM. This is useless, but fun. More importantly; you can run Ubuntu Server. So, give this a try and see what you think of the new 2019 release.
