There has been a new data breach. Telstra has been compromised and the records of 30,000 current and former staff. The names and email addresses of the staff members were posted on the same forum the Optus breach data was posted on last week. Data unveiled included first names, last names and work email addresses of 30,000 Telstra employees who worked for the company prior to 2017. This is a serious data breach. This means that data security needs to be taken more seriously. I mean it is 2022 and we need a more secure Internet to protect company data from theft. This should not be happening in the modern world, but it is. Companies need to be held accountable for data breaches and not ensure that the data on databases are held in a secure location and that all access is recorded and controlled. That is how you ensure that the customer or employee records are not stolen. This Telstra breach also contained the information of 12,800 current employees as well. Apparently, the data breach was of a third party that had previously provided Telstra’s Worklife NAB rewards program for staff.
This is why a business or corporation should be hesitant to allow third-party access to databases. it can only end in pain. They may not take data security very seriously at all. Will this lead to a digital ID requirement to use the Internet? Only time will tell.
