Windows will be adding the ability to run Linux GUI apps on Windows.

The Windows 10 operating system will soon have the ability to run GUI Linux apps on the Windows desktop. Is Microsoft trying to replace Linux installations with Windows 10? That would be very interesting. But there is already a Windows version of GIMP, this would imply that they want to run other things like the Caja file manager and possibly the whole Gnome desktop. But if this is for development purposes, you already have a lot of dev environments on Linux. Why use a complicated layer in Windows to run Linux applications? Linux already has all of the dev packages with all C++ headers ready for programming work. Then you are ready to start right away. Why use Windows 10 for this instead? Microsoft is trying to kill Linux by taking over the market by running Linux applications on Windows in a translation layer. They want to have a full Linux kernel on Windows Subsystem for Linux. Does this mean that running Linux drivers would work as well? I guess it would use the host NVidia hardware and drivers to power the Linux subsystem. Installing apps for Linux on Linux is easier though.

Windows 10 has a heap of issues with updates deleting files and causing things to stop working. So that needs to be fixed before adding in all of this new stuff. This is pointless. Why attempt to replace something that is not broken?
